Obituary for Frances T. Vasicek

Frances T. Vasicek, 90, of Midland, was surrounded by the love of her family when she died at home Thursday, January 25, 2018. She was born September 24, 1927 in Dolni Bojanovice, Czechoslovakia, daughter of the late John and Frances (Novak) Komosny. She moved to Dresden Ontario Canada, where she married Stanley Vasicek on August 21, 1948. Fran was the assistant administrator for King’s Daughter’s Home, retiring after twenty-eight years of service. She was a devout member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church; also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Berryhill Post 165, the Midland Elks Lodge 1610, the CSA (Czechoslovak Society of America), and the Travel Group at the Midland Community Center. Fran and her husband wintered in Golf Shores, Alabama, summered at Higgins Lake, and traveled the world. She enjoyed golfing and bowling and had been involved with many area leagues. She was a member of several bridge clubs, and was known as a worthy adversary.



Fran is survived by her six children, Edward (Shannon) Vasicek, of Ada, Benjamin Vasicek of Grosse Ile, Theodore Vasicek of Ypsilanti, Michael (Jan) Vasicek of Midland, William Vasicek of Hope, Marilyn (Steve) Schumacher of Longmont, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Keith (Amanda) Vasicek, Kyle Vasicek, Kristopher Vasicek, Laina (Mike) Mills, Brett (Dr. Brooke) Vasicek, Michael Vasicek, Ashley Vasicek, and Jacob Vasicek; two great grandsons, Andrew Vasicek, and Greyson Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 2000; by her brother John, and sisters, Mary and Anne. Fran’s family would like to thank the staff of Carmen’s Loving Care and MidMichigan Home Care Hospice for their compassion and care.



The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday January 30, 2018 at St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, 207 Ashman Street. Father Andy Booms will officiate, with graveside burial rites at New Calvary Cemetery. Fran’s family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street on Monday from 4-7 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A Vigil service will take place at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church, or MidMichigan Home Care Hospice.
