Obituary for Joan Lee Reif

Joan Lee Reif, 85, of Saginaw, went to be with her Lord, Saturday afternoon, April 28, 2018 at her Residence. She was born July 16, 1932 in Saginaw, daughter of the late William and Viola (Dauer) Hayes. Joan was a 1950 graduate of Saginaw High School. On August 7, 1982 she was married to Donald G. Reif in Saginaw. He survives her. In her younger years she was employed at the Bavarian Inn, Morley Brothers, Sears, at one time owned Shear Magic Design in Frankenmuth, and helped her husband on their farm. She was employed for over twenty-eight years as an Underwriter with Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance retiring in 1985. Joan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese and was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association. She and her husband Don wintered in Estero, Florida for many years. She enjoyed playing golf, but her biggest enjoyment of all was being “Grandma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving besides her husband Don are her children and their spouses; David Demers of Phoenix, AZ; Tim and Lusi Demers of Davis Junction, IL; Lori and Jonathan Gilliland of West Lafayette, IN; Lynda and Frank Malott of Jenison; Steve and Sally Reif, Gary and Patricia Reif and Karen Jean Reif, all of Saginaw; twenty grandchildren and many great grand-children. Also surviving are her two sisters; Mary Clauss of Saginaw, Susan Eckhoff and her husband Gerald of Estero, FL; and two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Hayes of Saginaw; Ruth Ann Taylor of Essexville. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother, Delbert Hayes, her sister, Joyce Harris and her brother-in-law, David Taylor.

Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Rev. Daniel Burhop will officiate with private family Committal Services to take place later, Friday afternoon, in the Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum in Saginaw. Mrs. Reif’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Thursday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese.
