Obituary for Mary M. Mudd

Mary M. Mudd passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Bickford Cottage surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 20, 1932, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of James and Shirley (Legg) Gray. On September 22, 1950, she married the love of her life, Duane Mudd, at the First United Methodist Church, and they were married for nearly 65 years. Mary retired from Dow Chemical Company in 1996, after working there for 20 years, most recently in the Patent Department. After retirement, Mary and Duane spent 12 years wintering in Las Vegas. She loved trips to the Casino where she was typically a lucky winner at the penny slots. Mary enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, cake decorating, feeding the birds (she had a knack for attracting hummingbirds) and fishing trips with her family. Her favorite music included Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow, Olivia Newton-John and the Bee Gees. Mary was a meticulous homemaker, and raising her family was one of the great joys in her life. Mary was kind-hearted, strong willed, and would do anything for you. Surviving are her two children Brian (Karin) Mudd of Sarasota, Florida and Maureen (Larry) Bradley of Montgomery, Illinois; two grandsons David Mudd of Atlanta, Georgia and Tristan Mudd of Madison Wisconsin; and one sister Carcia Lucille Mutch of Clio, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Duane L. Mudd and sister Leonora Imogene Mack.

Funeral services for Mary will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Rev. Jung Eun Yum will officiate with burial to follow in Midland Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and again on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Association.
