Obituary for Barbara Jean Theaker

Barbara Jean “Barb” “Barbie” Theaker of Midland went home to be with her Savior on May 25, 2019.

Barb passed away in her home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Petoskey on April 7, 1940 to George and Margaret (Marcotte) Prokop. The oldest of five children, she spent her early childhood years in Wayne. The family relocated once again to Wolverine when she was in the 7th grade. She resided there until 1984 when she and her husband Tom moved to Boyne City. Barb remained there until the time of her husband’s death in 2014 when she moved to the Midland area to be with her children.

Barbara graduated from Wolverine High School in 1958 and soon after married her husband of 57 years, Thomas Albert Theaker.

Barbara was a faithful servant of Jesus, a loving wife, selfless mother, and cherished grandmother and great grandmother. Her welcoming smile and grateful heart will be remembered by all who knew her. Serving others, especially her family, brought her joy. She had a special place in her heart for children. Her home and table were open to family, friends and many missionaries where homemade bread, butter, and cinnamon rolls were sure to be found. She also enjoyed her farm animals and pets. She spent countless hours cooking, baking, canning, preserving, sewing, and caring for others.

She was a founding member of Wolverine Baptist Church until her move to Boyne City where she became a member of Boyne City Baptist Church. At the time of her death she was attending Calvary Baptist Church in Midland.

She is survived by her grateful children Kathleen (Dan) Matson of Hope, Kevin (Checotah) Theaker of Munith, Kyle Theaker of Midland, Karen Miller of Boyne City and Kenny (Deanna) Theaker of Duncan, SC, 18 special grandchildren, and 11 precious great grandchildren as well as loving sisters Carol (Mike) Jaroche, Judy (Steve) Fitzner and Diane (Kim) Widrig all of Wolverine, sisters-in-law Anne Latusek of Grayling, Florence England of Romulus, Beverly Theaker of Wolverine, and Rebecca Prokop of Wolverine, brother-in-law William Theaker of Mattawan, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Tom, parents George and Margaret Prokop, brother George, daughter-in-law Heather Theaker and grandson Joel Theaker.

Funeral services for for Barbara will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 from Calvary Baptist Church, 6100 Perrine Road, with Dr. Michael Reece officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 in Silver Lake Cemetery in Wolverine. Barb’s family will receive friends at Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
