Catharine (Cathy) Ann Ring passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease in the early morning hours of December 22nd near her home in Byfield, Massachusetts. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 8, 1941, Cathy had a life-long relationship with her husband Jerold (Jerry) that began in middle school in Providence where they both grew up. After attending nursing school in Boston, Cathy became a certified laboratory technician in hematology at Rhode Island Hospital.

Cathy had a passion for children and their welfare encouraging them to live a life of knowledge and understanding through reading, especially by taking out books at their local library. She served for many years as a Board member of the Midland Preschool Center. Cathy was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving in various capacities including the Board of Deacons. She was well-traveled in Europe and Asia having lived in Hong Kong and Ireland. Her favorite sound was the wheels of her airplane hitting the tarmac on landing. Her second favorite sound is a secret. Cathy loved the summer months at her condominium in Elk Rapids, MI sharing time and the beauty of the area with her grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor, read and wrote poetry, was spiritual, and found purpose through her membership in Chapter FA of Midland P.E.O.

Cathy is survived by Jerry, her husband of 54 years; son Craig and daughter-in-law Cindy of Ipswich, Massachusetts; son Mark and daughter-in-law Heather of Mercer Island, Washington. She was predeceased by her daughter Cynthia Christine in 1991. Other surviving
relatives are: brother Richard and sister-in-law Jane; grandchildren Gabrielle, Erin, Ava, Jonathan, and Zachary; great grandson Cayden; niece Tara; cousins Jeanne Lewis, and Catherine MacKinley; and her life-long friend Judith Vance of New York City.

A celebration of Catharine's life conducted by the Reverend Dr. Wallace H. Mayton III will take place at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Relatives will be present at the church one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place. Cathy's ashes will be placed temporarily in the columbarium at the Memorial Presbyterian Church.
