Obituary for David D. Navarro

David D. Navarro, 80, of Reese, died Wednesday afternoon, August 28, 2019 at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. He was born January 25, 1939 in East Chicago, Indiana, son of the late David and Catherine Navarro and attended schools in the East Chicago area. Dave served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962, attached to SAC Command #379 Bombing Wing in Guam. On June 3, 1961 he married the former Ina Spiekerman in Reese. She survives him. He was employed for over thirty-years with Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring in 1995. Dave was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reese and served his community as a member of Reese Fire Rescue where he attained the rank of Captain before his retirement. One of his greatest enjoyments in his life was golfing. He was a member of the County Line Golf Course in Reese, playing in the Monday UAW league and the Thursday evening golf league. Dave was an avid supporter of Reese High School athletics, especially football, and was proud to have coached the Christ Lutheran Basketball team to a state championship.

Surviving besides his wife Ina are his three children and their spouses; Yvonne (Mark) Whitaker of Chamblee, GA; Ret. Col. Jan (Jaime) Apo of Tyrone, GA; and David A. (Emley) Navarro of Davison; grandchildren; Casey Whitaker, Jordan Whitaker, Katie Clay, Lauren Apo, Dylan Apo, David M. (Christina) Navarro, Derek (Brittni) Navarro, Drake Navarro, and great-grandchildren; Braylynn and Everly Navarro, and David James Navarro. Also surviving is his sister, Theresa (Rudy) Rodriguez. In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by three brothers, Alfred, Robert, and Gilbert Navarro and two sisters, Sally Lisle and Olivia “Gloria” Garcia.

Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from the Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road in Grand Blanc. Reverend Dr. Todd A, Biermann will officiate with burial to follow in the Great Lakes National Cemetery with full Military Honors to be presented by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Dave’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Visitation hours on Tuesday will conclude with Last Call Honors being presented by Reese Fire Rescue. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association or Reese Fire Rescue.
