Dennis Patrick Casey, 80, of Rockwood, Tennessee and Midland Resident for over 35 years, died Thursday, October 18, 2018. He was born in Princeton, West Virginia, son of the late Clarence and Ivory Casey. At a young age, Dennis and his family moved to the Detroit area where he attended school and graduated from East Detroit High School. It was here that he met and later married the love of his life, the former Lois Faye Chapman. She preceded him in death November 30, 1995. Dennis worked for Procter and Gamble for over 20 years before venturing out on his own. For more than 15 years Dennis owned and operated Vortman Cookies where he often forgot that he was his own boss and worked harder than nearly any employee. To pass the time, he and Lois enjoyed going fishing together, even though Lois always caught the bigger fish. Dennis was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and only gave it up after his life flashed before his eyes one too many times. He was a great collector and was known to bring things home, fix them up, and sell them himself. No rummage sale was left unscathed by Dennis just so he could furnish his own. In years to come, his family was spared no complaint about his numerous trips to the casino. Dennis was a great joker, story teller, and salesman to the end. Only he could find a way to sell ice to an Eskimo.

Dennis is survived by his children Cathy L. Casey-Hoffman, Michael D. (Sharon Murphy) Casey, William T. (Kathy) Casey, and Thersa L. (Thomas) Wiles; grandchildren Jennifer (Duane), Rebecca, Caitlin, Andrew, Jonathan, Stephanie, Kyle, Nicholas, and Quentin; 11 great grandchildren; and his siblings. In addition to his parents and wife, Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl L. Briggs and one grandson.

Memorial services for Dennis will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
