Obituary for Dorothy M. Anderson
Dorothy M. Anderson, the tenacious and feisty 92 year old of Midland, gave up the fight Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Stone Crest Assisted Living in Freeland. She was born July 15, 1927 in Calumet, daughter of the late Michael and Ruth (Brokenshire) Mayers. As a young woman, Dorothy moved to Detroit to be with Berger “Bud” Anderson and the two were married August 11, 1945. Dorothy and Bud moved to Midland where they laid the foundation for their family. Dorothy proudly worked for Hansen’s Clothing Store as a sales clerk for nearly fifteen years and it was a job she enjoyed immensely. She and Bud made frequent visits to the U.P. to see family and spend time enjoying the beauty of Lake Superior and the trees. In the winter, the two spent their days walking the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Darlene Andrews; grandchildren Natalie (Chris Counts) Andrews, Jennifer (Patrick) Martin, and Cameron Ray; siblings Cliff Mayers, Arthur (Mary) Mayers, and Barbara Shaltz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Berger “Bud” Anderson and daughter Carolyn Anderson as well as her sisters Lillian Mayers and Ruth (Eugene) Marchestki, sister-in-law Karen Mayers, brother-in-law Joe Shaltz, and her beloved orange tabby cat Runty Boy. Dorothy’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Stone Crest Assisted Living for the loving care and support they gave over the past 7 years.
A graveside service for Dorothy will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider SOS Animal Rescue or the donor's favorite charity.
