Obituary for Howard H. Bittner

Howard H. Bittner, 88, of Reese, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Covenant HealthCare, Cooper Campus in Saginaw, surrounded by his family. He was born January 5, 1931 in Reese, son of the late Charles and Ella (Laux) Bittner. He attended Reese Public School and Bay City Central High School. Howard served his country with the U. S. Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. On February 16, 1952, he married the “love of his life”, Shirley Schoof in Bay City. Together they celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage. Howard was employed by Consumer’s Energy for thirty-nine years before his retirement. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren. His hobbies included doing yardwork, camping, tinkering in the shed and cheering for the Tigers. During his retirement he spent his time as a “Winter Texan” at W & I Resort in Mission Texas. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese for many years.

Surviving besides his wife Shirley, are his two children and their spouses; William and Joan Bittner and Marcie and Ed LeBuda, all of Reese; his grandchildren; Christi (Troy) Birchmeier, Brian (Jamie) Bittner, Michael (Amanda) LeBuda, Megan (Neil) Bekemeier, Jennifer (Jeff) Lehman, and his great-grandchildren; Paige, Hailey, Trevor, Cayley, Alyssa, Aiden, Marley, Mia, Connor, Ava, and Brooklyn. Also surviving is his sister, Eleanor Bluhm of Clawson; and his brother, John Bittner and his wife Sandy of Reese. In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by his infant son; Michael, brother; Carl Bittner, sister; Arlene Southworth and grandson; Scott Bishop.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Reverend Daniel Burhop and Vicar Timothy Sheridan will both officiate with burial to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Full Military Graveside Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Reese American Legion Post #139.. Howard’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street in Reese on Monday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese or the donor’s favorite charity.
