Obituary for Jack William Sinclair

Jack William Sinclair, 93 of Highland and former Midland resident, died Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Hummingbird Hartland. He was born February 28, 1925 in Midland, son of the late Harry David and Estelle Marie (Specht) Sinclair. Jack attended Midland schools and graduated from Midland High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving during World War II. Once the war was over, Jack returned to Michigan where he enrolled for undergraduate studies in Albion. It was here that he met the former Emily Faye Engstrom. The two were married April 17, 1949 at the Methodist church in Albion. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Jack took his education to the next level, earning his Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University. Jack enjoyed all sports and played college football and basketball. He also enjoyed golfing but his sport of choice was always tennis. Jack was a big kid at heart. His love of sports followed him into his adult years where he could often be found playing with the neighborhood children and organizing their gaming events. Ballroom dancing was another of Jack’s favorite pastimes. It did not matter what state they were in, he and Faye could always be found at the local dance spot “cutting a rug”. Jack took great pride in his fancy footwork and made sure to teach his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews how to dance. These are some of the wonderful memories they will cherish forever.

Jack is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Faye Sinclair of Highland; daughters Wendy Ruth (Corbin) Wagner of East Lansing, Laura Jean (Steve) Waters of Leadville, CO, and Polly Ann (Jim) Shields of Highland; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Sinclair and Robert Sinclair, sister Margery Anger, and grandson Joel Wagner.

Funeral services for Jack will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2018 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street with Rev. Dr. Wallace Hostetter officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Compassion International in Jack’s memory.
