Obituary for James Paul Dryer

James Paul Dryer “B.J.”, 82 of Midland, passed away unexpectedly at the MidMichigan Medical Center due to health complications. Jim was born in Kalamazoo on April 4, 1936, son of the late William and Elisabeth Dryer. He graduated from Kalamazoo High School in 1955. He moved to Midland in 1957 to help with the family business, Dryer Brothers Construction Company. He married Monica Bartos on February 16, 1957.
Jim and his two brothers, Harry and Bill, owned and operated 3-D Sports Center, 3-D Honda Motors, 3-D Rustproofing and 3-D Rental.
Jim was a kind, funny and generous man and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He made everyone laugh with his jokes and stories. He loved spending time with his family and friends at the cabin in Wolverine. He loved fishing and was a master salmon fisherman and shared his catch with many people.
Surviving are his children, Ken Dryer, Juli Dryer and Tom Dryer, all of Midland; four grandchildren, Ami King, Jordan Dryer, Kyle Dryer and Marlena Good; two great grandchildren, Alivia Fisher and Lauren King; brother, William (Bev) Dryer of Midland and sister, Rosalie Roberts of North Carolina, several nieces and nephews, his lifelong friend, Jim Bark and his beloved cat, Mr. Kitty.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Monica Dryer, brothers Kenneth Dryer, Harry Dryer Sr., sister Karen Weston; uncle Chris Dryer and nephews, Harry Dryer Jr. and Carl Dryer.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street with Pastor Dwight Kingsbury officiating, burial will be in Midland Cemetery next to his wife. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Senior Services in Jim’s memory.
