Obituary for Jean Montgomery

Jean B. Montgomery, 79, of Caro, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Tuesday evening, July 30, 2019 at Vadavilla Adult Foster Care in Unionville. She was born August 14, 1939 in Bay City, daughter of the late Hector Allan and Emma Margaret (Enser) Young, was baptized, confirmed, and married by the late Reverend Rutledge, at St. James Lutheran Church. Jean’s love for music started at an early age with piano, and later at the age of eighteen, was organist at St. James, Grace Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran in Caro. Her music involved directing children’s choirs, hand bells, including numerous adult choirs, and was with the Thumb Friend of the Arts Choir in Unionville-Sebewaing. Health issues began at age 45 years, but with the Grace of God, she didn’t let it interfere with her music, grandchildren’s activities, and her flowers.

Surviving are her three sons and their spouses: Gary Montgomery, and Brian (Mary) Montgomery, all of Caro; John (Lori) Montgomery of Unionville; eight grandchildren: Nathan Hall, Megan Anderson and her husband Paul, Kassandra Montgomery, Kyle Montgomery, Olivia Montgomery, Briana Houghteling, Kaitlynn Montgomery, and Maci Montgomery, and three great-grandsons: Clayton and Brooks Anderson and Eden Hall. Also surviving are her three sisters; a twin sister, Joanne (Jim) Schafer of Frankenmuth; Marjorie Cockerill of Caro; and Marian (Dale) Sylvester of West Lake, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by three grandchildren; triplets, Natalie, Elise, and Collin Montgomery and her brother-in-law, Tom Cockerill.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019 from St. Paul Lutheran Church 503 S. State Street in Caro. Pastor Cameron Steele will officiate with Committal Services to take place at 2 p.m. in the Gilford Township Cemetery. Jean’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Friday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Paul Lutheran Church Music Fund or Building Fund.
