Obituary for Katharine Pease Young

Katharine Pease Young, 92 of Midland, daughter of Charles Wallace and Jeannette (Talmadge) Pease; was born in Cleveland, OH on August 12, 1926. She graduated from Koshkonong High School, Koshkonong, MO and attended East Central College in Union, MO. Her primary calling was devoted wife and mother. Before marriage she was employed in Kansas City as the Senior Accountant for Liesfeld, Inc. She was also a member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and the Plaza Executive Women.

She married Ellis Henry Young in 1958 in the Country Club Methodist Church, Kansas City, MO. She was active in Girl Scouts in Utah, serving as a Scout Leader, Day Camp Director, Council Trainer, and Head of Personnel for the Utah Girl Scout Council from 1967-1973. She served the community through the Newcomers organization and also as a Daughter of the American Revolution (welcoming new citizens, helping with scholarships). Katharine lived her adult life in Kansas City, MO, Austin, TX, Roy, UT, Hoffman Estates, IL, Crystal Lake, IL, and Blue Bell, PA before moving to Candlestone Assisted Living in Midland, MI in 2017. She was a worshiper at Midland Evangelical Free Church and enjoyed participating in Bible studies, as her health permitted.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Young Bogan, son-in-law Leonard Edward Bogan Jr., grandson Christopher Ellis “Kit” (Brooke) Bogan, three great grandchildren Caroline, Jack, and Lucy Bogan, and extended great granddaughter Lanci Phillips. Katharine's brother Charles Talmadge Pease (Mary Lee), their daughters; Pamela Spreutels (Kenneth), Kendra Spreutels and nieces Judi (Roy) Knapp and Vicki (Jack Lorimer) Scott.

Katharine is also survived by extended grandchildren Ruth and Ted Fricker, their children Emma and Mara, HeYoung (TaeSeop Kim) Chu, their children ChaeE and JeHoo, SangKyu Chu, Amanda (Jonathan) Roque, Julianna (Felice) Garr, Gary Lee, Talia (Ray) Ziviski and their children Pearl, Glen, and Ava.

Memorial services will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Katharine’s family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. Her remains will be taken to Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA to rest with those of her husband.
