Obituary for Delbert J. Richards

Delbert J. Richards, 87 years, of Gilford, died early Friday morning, March 30, 2018 at Satchell’s Retirement Home in Caro. He was born June 29, 1930 in Bay County, son of the late Julius and Mary (Schillair) Richard. Delbert served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. On November 7, 1953 he married the former JoAnn Korthals in Munger. She survives him. He was employed as an Assembly Production Line Worker at Bay City Chevrolet in Bay City for thirty-one years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Trinity-St. James Lutheran Church in Munger most of his life. Mr. Richards was also a member of the Fairgrove V.F.W. His hobbies included fishing, mowing his lawn, doing yardwork, and doing the dishes. His favorite pastime of all was spending time with his grandchildren.


Surviving besides his wife JoAnn are his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lavonne Richards of Reese; four grandchildren and their spouses; Monica (Bradley) Wenzell, Heidi (Patrick) Woody, Luke (Lindy) Richards, Kelsey Richards and four great-grandchildren; Easton, Belle, Ryker, and Larkin. Also surviving are his brother Virgil Richard and his wife Clarice, his sister, Eleanor Eigner, all of Bay City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and George Rupprecht of Reese and sister-in-law Beverly Richard of Vassar. In addition to his parents, Delbert was predeceased by his son, Mark Richards, November 18, 2008 and several brothers and sisters.



Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from the Trinity-St. James Lutheran Church in Munger. Reverend Michael Stahl will officiate. Committal Services and U. S. Army Military Honors will take place at 2 p.m. in the Gilford Township Cemetery. Delbert’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home 9940 Saginaw St in Reese on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Trinity-St. James Lutheran Church in Munger.
