Obituary for Lauretta Marie Owens

Lauretta Marie (Savoie) Owens, age 97, died at home Monday morning, May 28, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born December 1, 1920 in Dryburg, MI to the late Rene and Cecile Savoie. Lauretta graduated from Rudyard High School. After graduation she worked at the Co-Op. Lauretta married John R. Owens at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie on November 6, 1948. He preceded her in death August 29, 2005. After moving several times for John’s work, they settled in Larkin Township in 1952. In 1954, they built their home together where they raised their six children. She lived there until her death. Lauretta was a faithful member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. She loved any and all flowers; constantly tending to them inside and outside of her home. She is also survived by two brothers Harvey Savoie and Rene (Priscella) Savoie, three sisters Alberta Poland, Evelyn (Bob) Mitchell, and Agnes Trudgeon, a brother-in-law Bill Owens, and sisters-in-law Joan Savoie, Marge Savoie, Jean Owens, and Wilma Owens. In addition to her husband and parents, Lauretta was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Phyllis Owens September 24, 2013, her in-laws George and Anna Owens, and by her brothers Maurice, Bill, Paul, and Charles, and her sister Estelle McKay.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Griffin as celebrant.
