Obituary for Stephen "Steve" M. Jankowiak

Stephen M. “Steve” Jankowiak 59 years of Midland died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor after a short, sudden illness.

He was born on April 20, 1959 in Midland, son of the late Erwin and Dorothy (Brady) Jankowiak. Steve graduated from Meridian High School in 1977 and attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. He worked at several job opportunities until he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, there he developed his culinary skills. After his discharge from the Navy he worked at various restaurants in the Midland area and had worked at Meijers in Midland.
He is survived by sisters; Mary Jo Asadorian of Grand Rapids, Linda (Durel) Millar of Bay City, Jane (Patrick) Moshier of Fredrick, Maryland, Barbara (Bruce) Heaston of West Milton, Ohio, and Paula Smerdon of Sanford. He is also survived by one brother; Tom Jankowiak of Harbor City, California, by sisters in law; Judy Jankowiak of Midland, Phyllis Jankowiak of Chicago, Illinois and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by brothers; James Jankowiak and Michael Jankowiak and by brothers in law; Glen “Ace”Asadorian and Larry Smerdon.

He also will be truly missed by his girl friend and companion, Jennifer Craig.
A memorial visitation for Steve will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the family.
